Top Tips.

What are you looking for?
Energy bills have consistently been on the rise and every year or so, gas bills do not fail to surprise us. The rising cost of gas bills means consumers are often willing to switch gas suppliers to get a better deal.
To reduce the units of gas consumed, here are a few simple “no cost” tips:

1) Set your heating timer to go off 30 min before you leave the house and 30 min before you return
2) Reduce the heat thermostat by 1 degree ( may save you around £25 a year)
3) Make sure your radiators are fully exposed and not covered
4) Keep your curtains drawn to help reduce heat loss

If you have a bit of money to spend on your house, you can do a few things to make substantial cost savings on your gas bill:

1) Install hot water insulation - saves £10 per year
2) Get draught proofing around doors and windows - saves £30 per year
3) Get double glazing - saves £40 per year
4) Get loft and cavity insulation - (best tip) saves the more than £100 per year.
Switching gas suppliers may get you a better deal from time to time and there are energy price comparison sites such as uswitch.com who help you find a better deal. However, switching you gas supplier is not the end all solution to the rising gas bills. The units of gas consumed remain the same but the unit price is different. Chances are that you may get a slightly lower gas unit price when you switch but it will most likely rise again on renewal.

To save money on gas bills, the best thing to do is to reduce the units of gas you consume as this way you are sure to save money on your existing gas bills and even more if you switch your gas supplier for a better unit price deal. Typically, the combination of these can help you save hundreds of pounds over a year.
