Each year, millions of mobile phones are sold to buyers who are willing to sign up to a contract without question. Negotiating can bring serious rewards such £100s in money savings or a latest / new handset.
4) Select & negotiate - once you have narrowed your search down to two mobile pone suppliers who have suitable packages which are in your target/budget range, the next step is to negotiate as much as you can. You may be able to get a discount, cash back, free gift (e.g. DVD or nintendo wii) or even a a better phone. To approach this, you may need to use a tactic such as calling and saying:
“I am interested in the mobile phone package you have on offer and would be happy to move from my current supplier but would need a better deal to do this. What can you offer?"
You will end up getting an offer and note this and the persons details down. Then, do the same as above for the second chosen supplier. One of the two deals form the mobile phone suppliers will be better than the other and you will end up saving a bit more money.
5) Recycle - once you have a new phone on a new contracts, you can recycle your old phone with companies such as envirophone.com who are happy to pay you some money to buy your old phone off you.
Here are a few tips to bear in mind when looking at new mobile phone contracts or switching suppliers:
1) List what you need - figure out your needs and requirements such as fee minutes, texts and type of mobile handset. This is the first step to saving money as you will need to stick to your list and don’t pay for more tan what you need.
2) Set a monthly tariff target budget such as £25 or £35 per month and stick to it. Do not budge if the supplier tries to squeeze more.
3) Compare prices - look at price comparison sites such a uswitch.com and gocompare.com to find the mobile phone suppliers that have suitable deals and the price package that suits you.
